0x DATA COLLECTED

Overview

Video Speed Controller ("the extension", "we", "our") is a Chrome extension that lets you control the playback speed, position, and appearance of HTML5 videos on any website. This policy covers the extension only — it does not apply to third-party websites you visit while using it.

The short version: the extension runs entirely on your device. It does not have a server, does not use analytics, and does not send any information about you or your browsing anywhere. Everything below explains exactly why, permission by permission.

Data we collect

None. Specifically, the extension does not collect, transmit, or sell:

  • Your browsing history or the URLs of pages you visit
  • Video content, titles, or thumbnails
  • Personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address)
  • Analytics, usage statistics, or crash reports
  • Authentication credentials, form inputs, or keystrokes

The extension contains no remote code, no third-party SDKs, and no network calls of any kind. It works fully offline.

Permissions we use

Chrome requires extensions to declare permissions up front. Here is what each one is used for and, just as important, what it is never used for.

storage

Saves your preferences — playback speed, overlay position, keyboard shortcuts, and site exceptions — inside Chrome's local storage on your own device, so they persist between sessions.

activeTab

Lets the extension act on the tab you're currently viewing only when you interact with it, so it can find and control the video player on that page.

scripting / host permissions

Injects the content script that detects HTML5 <video> elements — including inside Shadow DOM on sites like YouTube — and draws the on-screen speed overlay. This runs locally in your browser and reads nothing beyond the presence and playback state of video elements.

No permission is used to read page content unrelated to video playback, and none is used to transmit data off your device.

Where your settings live

All settings are stored using Chrome's built-in storage API, directly on your device (and synced across your own signed-in Chrome browsers via Google's standard Chrome Sync, if you have that enabled — we do not operate any server in that flow). Uninstalling the extension removes this data. We have no access to it at any point.

Third parties

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any information with third parties, because we do not collect any information to begin with. The extension does not embed advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking libraries of any kind.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, regardless of age — consistent with the rest of this policy.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the extension adds a feature that changes how data is handled — this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the change. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store changelog.
